The Ideal Home Show Scotland: Style With Sterling

I was lucky enough to be invited to a bloggers event at The Ideal Home Show Scotland, hosted by Sterling Furniture.

Since we’re always looking for good ideas for brightening up our house, I jumped at the chance to go along, meet some other bloggers and draw up my own wishlist of what I’d love to do to our ramshackle home.

The SECC Glasgow was the location of the four-day home show, dotted with celebrities including the scrummy George Clarke (AKA television’s Renovation Man – yum!) and the gorgeous Carol Smillie.

But it was Sterling’s Interior Design Manager Sara Hyslop who looked after us, and took us through the key looks for the season.

Sara describes her tastes as “eclectic, effortless and effervescent”.

The big interior trends for the season are metallics and textures from Zinc, with fun, tongue-in-cheek twists like Matthew Williamson at O&L. Emerging trends are metallic voiles such as those by Jab and Wind.

What trend is over? Eyelet curtains – which is bad news for my living room! But then, I’ve never been a style icon.

Sterling was the official sponsor of Ideal Interiors at Scotland’s award-winning home show, and displayed an exciting collection of contemporary, modern and traditional home furnishings.

I loved the bling, and the silver tones, which were right up my street.

But it was the colourful boudoir feel of the bedroom which proved to be my favourite

Sterling was also showcasing its new interior design service, which is now open at its Glasgow store in London Road, offering advice for all types of interiors projects – from colour matching to wallpaper selection, fabrics to furniture.

But good news for customers around Scotland is that Sterling has eight stores across the country, and new interior design centres are also located in Tillicoultry and Aberdeen.

I enjoyed getting a glimpse into what’s fashionable for this season. Although I can’t say fashion bothers me. I simply know what I like.

Strong colours and silver tones just happen to be my favourites (no word of a lie. My wedding colours were purple and silver). So it’s nice to be stylish for a change.

Thanks to the folks at Sterling and Parlez Media for a lovely day.

I’ll tell you more about the Ideal Home Show Scotland later in the week – when I’ll reveal which lovely bloggers I met, including the famous face showing off their underwear!

  4. That looks like it was a lot of fun…. I don’t know the first thing about interiors, its not my forte at all, as long as it looks homely and clean with a tasteful splash of colour, that’ll do me! Not so sure about all that silver/metallic though, it’s a bit of a cold colour. Great review. :o)

  6. Whoops! We’ve just ripped a dozen silver chandeliers out of our new house and replaced them with softer lights – if I’d known they were so much on trend I might have kept them in a bit longer! As you say though, it’s important to know what you like. Sounds like you picked up some great ideas and inspiration, and had a lovely fun time! x
