I have spent many happy holidays in the Lake District.
The most memorable being the Christmas before I became a mum.
We rented a cottage and the whole family enjoyed the festive season, strolling around the countryside, browsing beautiful little boutique shops and watching my ever-increasing bump turn me into a Christmas pudding.
Summer or Winter, the place is just magical.
Since the kids came along, we’ve returned to enjoy boat trips, walks in the hills and pony rides in the forest.
So I’ve always had plenty to Tweet about with the lovely Jane and Peter, of the Old Vicarage country guest house in Lorton (@StayinLorton) – if only to discuss how much I envy their location.
Their Victorian house, which used to be home to the vicar of the parish, was built in 1892 and became a guest house in 1986.
Jane and Peter took it over in 2007 and have been refurbishing and offering the finest hospitality ever since.
So you can imagine my excitement when this lovely couple contacted us to offer one lucky Mummy Central reader a two-night stay for two at their fabulous five star establishment in early 2012.
What better antedote to the stress of the Christmas holidays?
The Old Vicarage is nestled among the Buttermere-Loweswater-Lorton valleys, which make up a secret, secluded area of unspoiled Lake District. Reached from the passes of Newlands, Honister or Whinlatter which cut through some of the most remote and spectacular fells, the nearest town to the foot of these passes is Keswick.
And this property is full of olde worlde charm, with antiques, a four-poster bed and red squirrels scampering about on the lawn.
I could only be happier if I was able to steal this prize for myself!
Don’t worry, I won’t *sniffs huffily*
Get yourself in the running for this fantastic prize, and you could well be starting 2012 sipping bubbly in front of a roaring fire with the one you love.
